Boeing and Xiamen Airlines celebrate the milestone 8,888 737 delivery

Boeing (Chicago, Seattle and Charleston) on January 28 delivered the 8,888th 737 to come off the production line to Xiamen Airlines (Xiamen). The airplane, a Next-Generation 737-800, features a special “8888th Boeing 737 Delivery” logo commemorating the airplane’s significance.

Formed in 1984 as China’s first joint venture between the Civil Aviation Administration of China and a municipal government, Xiamen Airlines is China’s only all-Boeing carrier. The airline began flying passengers in 1985 with two 737-200s serving three cities.

With this delivery, Xiamen Airlines has now expanded its fleet size to 133 Boeing airplanes, including 17 737-700s, 106 737-800s, 4 757-200s and 6 787-8s. The carrier is regarded as one of the most profitable airlines in the world, with a record of 29 consecutive years of profit.

Hamad International Airport partners with Bayern Munich

Hamad International Airport-Qatar has announced that it will be the official platinum sponsor of the legendary German football club, FC Bayern Munich.

This airport views the move as another step toward the national vision of establishing global leadership in sports, as Qatar prepares to host FIFA World Cup 2022.

Rolls-Royce wins $2.7bn Norwegian Trent 1000 contract.

Rolls-Royce has signed a $2.7bn contract with Norwegian Air to provide the carrier’s fleet of 19 787 aircraft with Trent 1000 engines.

The order also includes Rolls-Royce’s Total Care services for Trent 1000 engines that will power 11 previously announced leased 787s yet to enter service. 



Norwegian also has options for 10 further aircraft which, if confirmed, will also be powered by the Trent 1000. 

Bjorn Kjos, Norwegian’s CEO, said: “This decision further develops our relationship with Rolls-Royce and we look forward to operating aircraft powered by the latest version of the Trent 1000, which sets new standards of performance.”

Iran Air orders 40 ATR 72-600s

Iran Air has signed an agreement with turboprop manufacturer ATR for 40 ATR 72-600 aircraft, following a 118 aircraft order it placed with Airbus last week. 

The deal, valued at $1.1 billion, includes firm orders by the state-owned carrier for 20 aircraft and 20 options. 
It was signed following discussions in Paris and Rome between ATR, Iranian government officials and the Italian and French state.

The new agreement is announced just days after Iran Air signed a $25bn deal with Airbus for a range of aircraft types comprised of 45 narrowbodies and 73 widebodies. 

Patrick de Castelbajac, CEO of ATR, said the 72-600 aircraft will help “reinforce and boost regional transportation across the country.”

After 19 years Malaysia Airlines grounds fleet of Boeing 777

Almost two years after one of its Boeing 777s went missing, Malaysia Airlines is grounding its remaining fleet of the aircraft - and cancelling the route on which one of the planes was shot down.

The Malaysian Airlines last 777 operation is scheduled took off from Amsterdam just before noon, on tuesday. It ends 19 years of flying the twin-jet and four decades of the route between the airline’s hub, Kuala Lumpur, and the Dutch capital.
